Green Computing With Refurbished Laptops

Green Computing With Refurbished Laptops

We no longer live in the ‘throw away’ age of discarding products simply because they have developed a small fault or we are after the latest and greatest new model. Protecting our Earth is now a big priority for most people and businesses, therefore we are adapting our lifestyles to do everything we can to help preserve our planet for future generations. Instead of throwing a s.com/”>laptop in the bin simply because one of the components has failed or it is no longer considered to be up-to-date, more and more people are turning to recycling or ‘refurbishing’ as an environmentally sound option.

Recycling can be done in a number of ways, selling the laptop for spares, donating it to charities that supply third world countries or by selling it to a refurbishing company such as Eflex Computers Companies such as this will offer you money for old laptops, whether they function or not, and then refurbish them and put them back into the marketplace. The refurbishing process is carried out by professionals and incorporates the following stages.

The laptop is fully wiped of all personal data, programs, software etc and taken to a ‘blank’ state. This not only protects the previous owner from having any information stolen but also ensures the system is totally clean of any viruses or issues that could prevent it functioning properly. The hardware then undergoes rigorous testing to ensure that all of the components are functioning correctly and that they still have a good life left in them. If any of the components aren’t functioning correctly or are identified as only having a short life span left they are replaced with new parts. Fresh versions of all the software including operating system, required drivers, anti-virus programs etc are then re-installed on the laptop effectively returning it to the same state as when it was first sent out of the factory.

Refurbished laptops are generally considered by a lot of people to more reliable then systems bought directly after manufacture. This is due the fact they have been operated for some time and so any issues with faulty hardware have been picked up and resolved.

Refurbished laptops offer a lot of benefits over buying a new model. The instant one you will see is the huge savings you can make on the price. For the sake of some cosmetic marks that wont effect functionality at all you can save up to 50% on high street prices. The second benefit is the huge impact on the environment. New laptops produce a lot of harmful gases and toxins during the manufacturing process that damage our environment. The refurbished option means 1 less new laptop being manufactured and 1 less old laptop sitting on the local tip!

  1. Reboot the router…

  2. for windows:
if you've already deleted them they might still be in the recycle bin. empty your recycle bin. or you can go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup to clear temporary files and compress old files. after disk cleanup choose Disk Defragment to further clean your system. this will take a while so close any running programs.

  3. Hmmm – Homework?

General Hints – you fill in the details

    Dos window
    ipconfig /all
    Ip address?
    gateway?
    DNS servers

    Ping router

    Cable test

  4. unless u got a watercooling system :P

  5. When it's loading up, keep pressing F8 until the menu comes up, there should be a repair option, try that

  6. Thats sick!

  7. Thats freakin unbelievable…

Can you build one for me?

  8. no need to know if you need a better grafics card you can just build one :D

  9. I cannot speak for the philippines, but in the United States, there is no license for any of the above. It is an experience driven industry which changes very fast.

  10. No. You would need to install something in order to do that.

  11. DO NOT GET ALIENWARE!!!
To pricey, building is definently better. If you want a desktop instead of a laptop then -

AMD or Intel processor – Dual core might be fine since its gaming and school, but go with quad core processor if you have the money.

Motherboard – Make sure it matches the brand of the processor you bought, and make sure it has PCI-Express 2.0 x16 in at least one slot.

    Memory – DDR2 or DDR3, just make sure it fits. 4 gig+

Hard drive – Bigger the better, but it can get expensive. 1 Terabyte if you need a ton of stuff stored, but 500 gigs should do.

Video Card – Mainly better for the gaming, ATI or Nvidia (I find both are good so it doesnt really matter which brand you pick). Just make sure the card is PCI-Express 2.0 x16. Most are now though.

Power/Cooling – Not very good on these since my purchases normally come with power and a fan/heatsink.

Optical drive – Just your DVD Rom/CD Rom

    OS – Vista most likely

  12. Fraid not..

Deskside support is slowly being phased out (where the repair tech comes to your desk). PCs have gotten so "cheap" that it's less expensive for a company to have a few spares on hand, swap out the hard drive and poof! the user is back in business.
Of course my perspective is corporate customers, I dont know what small businesses do.

The real opportunity is setting up wireless networks, installing anti-virus and anti-spamware software, developing secure VPNs for mobile employees, and integrating handheld devices (Blackberry and Windows Mobile phones) into the company.

The tech repair guys (unless you want to strike out on your own and target home and small business users) are low paid employees due to the commoditization of PCs.

    Hope that helps you..

    Good Luck and HNY

  13. Danm Pretty Sick. Wonder How good it is

    but its really cool

  21. Syncback SE downloadable at http://www.2brightsparks.com/products.html may help you automate this routine task for you.

  22. Compared to an aeronautical, mechanical and electrical engineer, no.
No idea about the military's policies.

  23. wow friken awsome

  24. cool ;)

  25. Actual cases are designed with airflow to be drawn from the lower front and processed in the area of the processor outwards. If there is not inlet for air, this will build up heat pretty quickly.
Other than that, looks pretty cool. Would like to see more of it though. The top seems non Lego like in the way that it’s smooth…

  26. nice work with a lego comp but you cant really tell its lego? just looks like a standard black box. not a huge amount of imagination going on

  27. wow, that’s awesome lol. But could you imagine trying to clean it after the dust builds up in the cracks?

  28. You need to network your PC with hers using an ethernet cable(LAN). Router is optional as it's primarily used for the internet. So, if you are both setup with the internet thru a router or if your just connected together with a LAN cable, then jsut create a network for printer sharing using the Network Setup Wizard in "Network Connections" in start menu or desktop

  29. Upgrade to Windows Vista.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/default.aspx

Sounds like your just trying to add the client of a XP PC to a VISTA PC network with your other computers, this doesn't matter if you have more computers, but it sounds to me liker trying you convert XP TO VISTA. All your client information will follow.

  30. you could not have enough memory to support your web cam.

    or

your webcam is faulty. Is the blue screen a quick flash with writing on or a long blank one. If its short ,and you can't read it, make a video and then skip through the video frame by frame to see what it says, it there is a STOP code on it, then yeah its most likey a hardware problem or software problem. again, it could all be your webcam,

if there is an error or stop code on the blue screen google the code and you chould be able to find out what is wrong

  31. Your cell phone has an email address. It varies by carrier (calling their customer support would be a good idea). You can email the pictures from your computer to your cell phone's email address and you will receive the picture as a picture message on your cell phone. You will want to make sure that you compress the picture size so that your phone can get it. You will be charged for an incoming picture message (assuming you don't have a message plan).

  32. i did this but without the computer stuff, just made the towers design with a red skull with a gunshot wound. its pretty cool, thinking of modding it into my old computer to see if it will work.

  33. Go to Power Options in the control panel. You will find all the choices there. Power off, sleep, hibernate, stand by, etc.

Go to help to read about the various options. You can have a complete power off. You can have a mode that stores memory and powers off for a quicker startup. You can have a mode that just puts it in low power mode which starts up almost instantly. I use the last.

    ? ??l???q ?

  34. real?

  35. ……wow…

  36. WOW
